SUMMARY:Basic Jewelry Making Skills Class 4-Week Class
DESCRIPTION:Dates & Time: Thursdays\, from 1 PM to 4 PM on Thursdays\, March 3\, 10\, 17 & 24 \nMaggie Manley will do a series of four-classes focusing on the basic skills needed to successfully fabricate projects using beads and wire. \nWe will begin with basic stringing techniques and proceed into basic wire working techniques.  These classes will combine skill drills with making projects utilizing new skills in beading & wire working.  Individual support for students will be provided on Sundays from 1 PM to 2 PM following each class\, if requested in advance. \nWe will learn about\, and practice\, some basic bead stringing skills including simple stringing\, knotting\, macrame knots\, and using a loom. We will review use of various beading materials including\, needles\, various stringing materials\, various types of beads\, crimping\, wire-guards\, clam shells\, crimp covers\, clasps and jump rings. Projects may include knotting of pearls\, gemstone bracelet on wire or leather\, seed beads\, etc. \nWe will learn about\, and practice some basic wire working skills including tools\, wire sizes and types\, making simple &amp; wrapped loops\, hammering and texturing wire\, beaded chain\, spirals and making wire components. We will learn to solder jump rings\, if time allows. \nWe will create a sampler of numerous techniques within the class timeframe rather than focusing on completing one or two major projects\, however\, you will have the skills to delve into more complex projects after completion of these classes and we may decide to offer some project specific classes in the future\, if desired. The classes will be tailored to the skill level of student attendees. \nNotes: Project examples and resources for materials and additional learning will be presented in this class. SUMMARY:Small Torches for Jewelry Making Class
DESCRIPTION:Dates & Time: Thursday March 31st from 1PM – 3PM \nJeanean Slamen will teach this class for “torch curious” students who want to make jewelry using small butane torches to anneal\, fuse\, melt\, and solder fine silver and sterling silver.  The instructor will discuss torch safety\, demonstrate torch techniques\, and discuss how to set up a soldering station at home.  A range of jewelry projects suitable for butane torches will be shown and discussed.  Students will visit a series of stations to learn specific torch handling skills\, use a variety of torches and create elements for a pair of silver earrings. Tools & materials included. \nIf this class attracts enrollment it will continue to be offered as one of a series of single-session classes that will focus on projects to build specific metalsmithing skills. \nMember cost is $55.00; Non-member cost is $70.00 (all tools & materials included). \nMaximum 6-students; Minimum is 4-students. \nRegistration cutoff is Wednesday March 30th at 1PM. No walk-ins allowed. \n  \nJeanean Slamen took an undergraduate metalsmithing class eight years ago while working toward a fine arts degree in painting. Since graduating she’s been a jewelry maker who occasionally paints.
