Cost includes wire\, cabochon\, and fees. \nYou will learn to incorporate small cabochons from 8 mm round to 10 X 14 mm oval into a wire wrapped ring. \nMaximum is 6 students \nTools and Supplies needed: \n\nChain-nose pliers\nFlat-nose pliers (small\, narrow nose needed)\nRound-nose pliers\nFlush wire cutter\n6” or 12” ruler\nFile or sandpaper\nPolishing cloth\nPen and paper (for notes and designing)\nMetal sized ring mandrel\n8 mm round stone (provided\, or you can bring your own stone in a similar shape/size)\n22 ga. square copper wire. DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday May 17\, 12:00 – 5:00 pm\nMax 6 students\, min 4  (sign up deadline is May 13)\nCost: $94 member; $117.50 nonmember – Adults Only\nLocation: HGMS Clubhouse jewelry studio\n\nLearn to make a pair of dangle earrings using blacksmith forging techniques modified for jewelry making! The class will cover creating intricate patterns with brass rods and using those to create simple dangle earrings. By using brass rods and gold-filled ear wires we will get the look of gold\, without the expense! Each student will create pair of earrings in their chosen length (from ½” to 2”).\n\nThis class is appropriate for the beginning silversmith. No prior metalsmithing knowledge is required. We will use the torch extensively\, but no soldering will be performed.\n\nStudents will learn to\no Forge patterns in wire rods\no Filling\, sawing and drilling\no Polishing\nMaterials provided by instructor\nClass to be held in clubhouse Jewelry Studio. Will overlap open studio hours but\nwill extend into after hours.\nStudents must bring a mask (N95 or KN95) – this is to protect your lungs\nfrom metal dust.

DESCRIPTION:Class:  CABS 101  \nDate: Friday\, May 29th\, 12:00PM – 4:00PM \nLocation:  HGMS Clubhouse\, 10805 Brooklet Drive\, Houston\, TX 77099\, Center Classroom/Lapidary Shop\nInstructor:  Sharon Halton\nCost:  Member Cost $65.00; Non-Member Cost $85.00\nMinimum: 3-students; Maximum: 5-students\nNOTE:  Students must be at least 15 years old (special arrangements for children 12-14\, exception with approval of instructor ONLY) \nAll participants must wear closed toed shoes \nThis class includes a discussion of how to create cabochons and examples of cabs in various stages of development.  Sharon Halton\, Shop Manager\, will provide each student with a pre-cut\, preformed\, and dopped cabochon to shape while their chosen slab is curing from the dopping process.  Students will select a slab and learn how to use a template to outline the cab shape and use the trim saw to roughly shape the cabochon outline.  Each student will leave with 2-cabochons and the knowledge to finish them\, if they have not completed them in class.  Students will learn the best way to use the equipment in the Lapidary Shop so that they can work semi-independently and confidently in the shop afterwards with oversight from Shop Managers. This class is highly recommended for those wishing to utilize the Lapidary Shop. \n \nUpon prior arrangement with Sharon Halton (sharon4hgms@gmail.com)\, she will teach an individual or small party (2-3 participants) class in shop safety & cabochon creation at the price of $85. per person.\nDescription is the same as the Cabochon 101 class.\nPayable by Check made out to HGMS.
