DESCRIPTION:Class:  CABS 101  \nDate: Friday\, January 9th\, 5:00PM – 9:00PM \nLocation:  HGMS Clubhouse\, 10805 Brooklet Drive\, Houston\, TX 77099\, Center Classroom/Lapidary Shop\nInstructor:  Sharon Halton\nCost:  Member Cost $65.00; Non-Member Cost $85.00\nMinimum: 3-students; Maximum: 5-students\nNOTE:  Students must be at least 15 years old (special arrangements for children 12-14\, exception with approval of instructor ONLY) \nAll participants must wear closed toed shoes \n  \nThis class includes a discussion of how to create cabochons and examples of cabs in various stages of development.  Sharon Halton\, Shop Manager\, will provide each student with a pre-cut\, preformed\, and dopped cabochon to shape while their chosen slab is curing from the dopping process.  Students will select a slab and learn how to use a template to outline the cab shape and use the trim saw to roughly shape the cabochon outline.  Each student will leave with 2-cabochons and the knowledge to finish them\, if they have not completed them in class.  Students will learn the best way to use the equipment in the Lapidary Shop so that they can work semi-independently and confidently in the shop afterwards with oversight from Shop Managers. This class is highly recommended for those wishing to utilize the Lapidary Shop.

DESCRIPTION:Small Cabochon Wire-Wrapped Ring Class \nInstructor: Susan Burch \nIntermediate Level (Due to size of stone) \nThis is a very adaptable design\, swirls are not necessary for your finished project in class. For your future design\, you can add more wires and change the size/shape of the stone. \nDate: January 17th\, 10:00AM – 2:30PM \nTools and Supplies needed: \n\nChain-nose pliers\nFlat-nose pliers (small\, narrow nose needed)\nRound-nose pliers\nFlush wire cutter\n6” or 12” ruler\nFile or sandpaper\nPolishing cloth\nPen and paper (for notes and designing)\nMetal sized ring mandrel\n8 mm round stone (provided\, or you can bring your own stone in a similar shape/size)\n22 ga. square copper wire. (21-24” provided)\n22 ga. 1/2 round copper wire. (32” provided)\n1/4” masking tape (provided)\n~Magnifying lenses (Suggested if you have difficulty seeing small things)\n\nMember Cost: $52 \, $57 with tool rental \nNon-Member Cost: $60 \, $65 with tool rental \n  \nClasses will be held in the small classroom at the HGMS clubhouse unless another location is needed.  \n\n*If you don’t have your own tools\, you may rent a set when booking the class\, or at the time of the class for $5 from the instructor.
