DESCRIPTION:Date:  Monday\, March 11th\, from 11 AM to 3 PM\n\nCost:  Member Cost:  $60.00; Non-Member Cost:  $75.00\nLocation: Center Classroom and Lapidary Shop\nInstructor: Taught by Sharon Halton\, Shop Manager\n\nDescription: This class includes a discussion of how to create cabochons and examples of cabs in various stages of development.  Sharon Halton\, Shop Manager\, will provide each student with a pre-cut\, preformed\, and dopped cabochon to shape\, while their chosen slab is curing from the dopping process.  Students will select a slab and shown how to use a template to outline the cab shape and use the trim saw to roughly shape the cabochon outline.  Students will roughly outline their slab and dop it.  Each student will leave with 2-cabochons and the knowledge to finish them\, if they have not completed them in class.  Students will learn the best way to use the equipment in the Lapidary Shop so that they can work semi-independently and confidently in the shop afterwards with oversight from Shop Managers. DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, March 21st Noon to 2 PM\n\nCost: Member Cost $35.00; Non-Member Cost $45.00 (Cost includes tool usage & materials)\nLocation: HGMS Clubhouse\nInstructor: Maggie Manley\n\nDescription:Learn the art of knotting between beads and how to properly finish a strand with findings for long-term wear.  Maggie Manley will teach you to knot a string of beads on silk thread and other types of thread sized properly according to the hole-size of specific beads.  We will practice on pearls with silk and several other types of beads with different threads.  Emphasis will be placed on selecting the correct thread to match the bead hole size\, consistent knot sizes and spacing\, and how to end the strand for long-term wear.  Practice beads will be provided; or\, you may bring your own beads.  This class will emphasize practicing the art of knotting\, rather than producing a finished strand\, depending on individual expertise.  Several methods of knotting will be demonstrated. \n\n\nMisc.: \n\nMinimum 2-students; Maximum 6-students\nThis is a beginner level to higher skill level class\nBring magnifiers and auxiliary light\, if desired

Will overlap open studio hours but will extend into after hours.\nInstructor: Carmen Fraticelli\n\nBackground: I’ve been silversmithing for full time for 4 years\, part time for over 10. I supervise the Jewelry Studio several times a month to provide members with assistance in progressing their projects. \n\n\nDescription: Learn to make a pair of twisted hoop earrings from scratch! This class is appropriate for the beginning silversmith or for expanding one’s knowledge of basic silversmithing. It does require the participant to have some basic experience in soldering.\n\nThe class will cover the fundamentals of creating twists in square wire\, forming hoops\, and soldering earring posts. All pieces will be in sterling silver.  Each student will leave with a pair of hoop earrings in the size of their choice (up to 5.5” length total).\n\n\nWe will discuss how to use these techniques to make other hoop earrings (simple or with twisted wire)\n\n\n\nMisc.: Max 6 students\, Min 2
